Sandstone Room (Surface Treatment)
Client: House Owner | Sector: Residential

Situation
A modern home with a room wrapped around a sandstone rock to reflect the natural landscape. The area of the rock is quite large, equivalent to most of one wall in the room. The owner was concerned about musty smells and the potential mould growing in the sandstone, affecting the health of the people using that room.
Treatment
A test and treatment regime was set up and was to be carried out by the owners themselves. Three areas were identified as reference points. Surface samples for each area were tested by using contact slides to collect and incubate over a 5 day period. Then the sandstone wall was treated with SAN-AIR surface mould remover, followed by sealing with SAN-AIR sealant water based treatment. After drying the same reference surfaces were sampled again and results recorded.
Test Methodology
- 01Three reference areas identified on the sandstone wall surface
- 02Contact slide samples collected and incubated over 5 days for baseline
- 03Sandstone wall treated with SAN-AIR surface mould remover
- 04Wall sealed with SAN-AIR sealant water-based treatment
- 05Same reference surfaces re-sampled after treatment and drying
Result
- Nearly 100% drop in mould colony counts across all three areas tested
- Area 1: dramatic reduction from high baseline to near zero
- Area 2: significant reduction in CFU
- Area 3: substantial reduction in mould counts
Conclusion
The reduction in mould was dramatic, with nearly 100% drop on all three areas tested.
